IELTS Letter : Article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in your country

You have just read an article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in your country all look very similar to each other. You don’t fully agree with this opinion.

Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. In your letter

-say which points in the article you agree with
-explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres
-offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article

Answer :

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am Preet Sohi and I am a resident of Dunwoody. In this letter I want to express my opposing views regarding the article you have published about town centres of my country.

I do admit that all the town centres of my country were designed by keeping a similar concept in mind. That is to say, all the town centres include shopping malls, eateries and high rise buildings with extensive transit connectivity.

Despite the same layout, there are massive differences in all the town centres. Dunwoody’s town centre differs from the rest because of its architectural design. All the buildings in the town centre are constructed in Roman style. Moreover, unlike most of the centres, it is on the banks of a river and has a stadium on the southern end. Another thing that distinguishes it from other centres is its size. It is spread on a much larger area than any other centre.

I believe once you visit our town, you will have a true picture of what it looks like. As I have been living in this town for nearly 30 years now, I would not mind giving you a guided tour of my town anytime this week to explain you about the history and show you around the attraction spots.

I hope you will accept my offer and republish the article with true information.

Yours sincerely,
Preet Sohi
