IELTS Academic Writing: Australian household energy use , greenhouse gas emissions.

The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Answer:

The first pie chart illustrates the energy consumption in an average household of Australian, while the second pie chart displays the release of greenhouse gas from utilization of this energy.

Overall, it is apparent that the maximum proportion of energy is consumed for heating and least for cooling. Whereas, greatest amount of greenhouse gas emissions come from water heating.

Heating comprises of a significant proportion of energy consumption that is 42%, followed by water heating that amounts to 30%. In contrast, energy usage by other appliances is only 15% which is roughly twice as consumed by refrigeration. The energy consumed for cooling is half to that of lighting, which is 2% and 4% respectively.

Greenhouse gas is emitted by water heating consists of the largest proportion that is 32%. Meanwhile, greenhouse gas released from other appliance is approximately double to that from heating, that is 28% and 15% respectively. Refrigeration contributes to 14% of greenhouse gas emission, however minimal amount of greenhouse gas is produced from lighting and cooling that is 8% and 3% respectively.
