For a long time, Food Safe certificates in BC did not have an expiry date. If you took the course in 2010, you might think you are "Food Safe for Life."
This changed in 2013.
Now, all Food Safe Level 1 certificates in British Columbia expire 5 years from the date of issue. This aligns BC with other provinces and ensures food handlers are up to date on new viruses and safety protocols.
β οΈ CHECK YOUR WALLET:
If your card has an expiry date in the past, you cannot legally work as the designated Food Safe person on shift.
Your 2 Options for Renewal
So, your card is expired. What now? You have two choices at RupIELTS.
Option A: The Refresher
A shorter course (approx 3-4 hours).
Condition: You must have a previous Food Safe certificate that is not yet expired (or expired very recently).
Option B: Retake the Course
The full 8-hour day.
Why do this? Most students actually prefer this. It costs about the same, but gives you a full day to review the material, ask questions, and guarantee you pass the exam again.
Why Retake the Course at RupIELTS?
Things change. New pathogens appear (like Norovirus mutations), and regulations update. Taking the full 1-day course ensures you aren't just getting a piece of paperβyou are actually refreshing your knowledge to keep your customers safe.
