IELTS 18 Test-4 Essay

Some people dislike changes in their society and in their own lives, and want things to stay the same.
Why do some people want things to stay the same?
Why should change be regarded as something positive?

Change is an inevitable part of life. However, it is often met with resistance, especially when it affects our personal lives or the society we live in. This essay will explore why some people resist change and why change should be viewed as a positive force.

People often resist change for a variety of reasons. Firstly, humans are creatures of habit. We find comfort in routine and predictability. Change disrupts this routine and forces us to adapt to new circumstances, which can be uncomfortable and stressful. Secondly, change often brings uncertainty. The outcome of change is not always clear, and this uncertainty can cause fear and anxiety. Lastly, people may resist change if they perceive it as a threat to their values or way of life.

Despite these challenges, change should be regarded as something positive. Change brings about progress and innovation. Without change, society would stagnate, and there would be no advancements in technology, medicine, or social structures. Change also provides opportunities for personal growth. It pushes us out of our comfort zones and challenges us to adapt and learn. This can lead to the development of new skills and a broader perspective on life.

Moreover, change can lead to improvements in our lives and society. For example, societal changes have led to advancements in human rights, such as the abolition of slavery and the recognition of women’s rights. On a personal level, changes in our careers or relationships can open up new opportunities and experiences.

In conclusion, while change can be challenging and uncomfortable, it is a necessary part of life and should be embraced. It is through change that we grow as individuals and progress as a society. Therefore, instead of resisting change, we should view it as an opportunity for growth and improvement.
