Core Curriculum for Level 1:

By law, the operator and at least one employee on every shift must have this certificate. It is essential for cooks, servers, dishwashers, deli workers, and anyone who handles food.
FOODSAFE Level 2: For Managers & Leaders
Designed for owners, managers, kitchen managers, and executive chefs, this 12-hour course builds on Level 1 and focuses on the management of food safety programs.
Advanced Topics in Level 2:
Prerequisite: You MUST have a valid FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate before enrolling in the Level 2 course.
Your FOODSAFE Certificate
Certificate Validity & Renewal
Your FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate is valid for 5 years. Before it expires, you can take a shorter, 2-hour online refresher course to recertify.
If your certificate has already expired, you must retake the full 8-hour Level 1 course.
FOODSAFE Level 2 certificates currently do not have an expiry date.
Why Certification is Crucial
Beyond being a legal requirement in BC, FOODSAFE certification is your commitment to public health. It protects your customers, your reputation, and your business from the severe consequences of a foodborne illness outbreak.
