The 5 Steps to Becoming a Security Guard

1. Complete the Basic Security Training (BST) Course

   You must complete a mandatory 40-hour course approved by the JIBC. At our Surrey campus (8232 120 Street), we offer flexible schedules to fit your busy life. We cover essential topics like Canadian Law, Fire Safety, and Conflict Resolution.

2. Pass the Provincial Exam

   After your training, you must pass a 1 hour and a half, multiple-choice exam with a score of 70% or higher. Don't worry—RupIELTS provides extensive mock tests to ensure you are ready.

3. Get Your Fingerprints Taken

   You will need to visit a local RCMP detachment or an accredited fingerprinting agency in Surrey or Delta to submit your prints for a background check.

4. Apply for Your License Online

   Once you have your BST certificate and fingerprints, you apply through the BC Security Industry Licensing website.

5. Start Working!

   Once your license arrives in the mail, you are legally allowed to work anywhere in BC, from malls in Abbotsford to office towers in downtown Vancouver.
