International tourism has brought enormous benefit to many places. At the same time, there is concern about its impact on local inhabitants and the environment.
Do the disadvantages of international tourism outweigh the advantages?
Several cities have garnered huge benefits and grown rapidly thorough ever expanding business of global tourism. Although, eyebrows have been raised about the ill effects of this trend on the aboriginals and nature, but still advantages wins the race over disadvantages by leaps and bounds.
Tourism has positively impacted every nation all over the globe in one way or another. To begin with, increase in the number of visitors to a place results in hike in income levels of local populace and more foreign exchange coming in to the country, thus resulting in significant rise in global domestic product numbers of the place in particular and country as a whole. In addition to this, with more inflow of tourists, people from host country as well as guests get to gather more knowledge about diverse cultural values of different nations. Hence, this cultural churning helps in create strong emotional and cultural bonding amongst people with varied value systems and diverse traditions.
Despite several benefits, the negative effects of international travels cannot be ignored. Firstly, the spike in number of people visiting a place leads to hike in pollution levels of that particular area, be it air, water, or any other type, which results in long term negative influence on the lives of people residing in those areas. Moreover, owing to human nature of drawing self benefits out of every act, there is increased probability of exploitation of both guests and hosts by one another. As a result, this leads to formation of stereotypes about societies in general.
To conclude, in spite of drawbacks like formation of stereotypes and in rise in pollution levels, the positive effects of global tourism such as cultural bonding and economic benefit outweigh the disadvantages.
