IELTS letter to Chris’s parents

The parents of your Australian friend Chris have invited you to a surprise birthday party for him/her. Write a letter to Chris’s parents. In your letter ,

  • say why you think Chris will enjoy the surprise party
  • explain why you won’t be able to attend the party
  • give details of a plan to see Chris at a different time

Dear Mr. and Mrs.Collins,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I was overjoyed to receive your invitation to Chris’s surprise birthday party, and I am genuinely excited for the celebration you have planned. I am writing this letter to you to inform about mu inability to attend the party.

Knowing Chris as well as I do, I am confident that he will be absolutely thrilled with the surprise party. Chris’s vibrant personality and his love for gatherings with close friends and family make this surprise event an ideal way to celebrate his special day. The thought and effort you’ve put into arranging this surprise will undoubtedly create a memorable and joyous occasion for him.

Regrettably, due to an unforeseen work commitment that coincides with the party date, I won’t be able to attend as it is extremely important for me to attend this meeting. Please accept my sincere apologies for this inconvenience.

However, I am determined not to miss the opportunity to celebrate with Chris. I propose that we plan a special get-together shortly after the party. We could arrange a picnic or a day trip to a place Chris enjoys, and this would allow us to catch up and extend our warm wishes in person. I believe a separate occasion will also give Chris a chance to extend the birthday cheer beyond the surprise party.

Once again, I appreciate your thoughtful invitation and apologize for not being able to join the party. Please convey my heartfelt birthday wishes to Chris, and let him know how much I look forward to celebrating with him soon.

Thank you for your understanding, and I hope the surprise party goes off without a hitch.

Warm regards,

[Your Name]
