Plastic bags plastic bottles and plastic packaging are bad for the environment.

What damage does plastic do to the environment?

What can be done by governments and individuals to solve this problem ?

ANSWER:

Various materials made of plastic, such as containers and wrapping materials  have detrimental impacts on the surroundings. They cause harm to nature in a variety of ways, but those effects can be negated if people and authorities take remedial steps at proper time.

To begin with, there are several ways in which plastic containing materials can affect our nature negatively.First of all, plastics are not biodegradable. Hence, they can take several years to decompose naturally and while getting broken down, they release toxic chemicals in to the atmosphere. As a result, it results in degraded quality of air and ultimately leading to several airborne diseases. In addition to this, during the production of plastics, an enormous amount of fuel is consumed. Consequently, these fuels emit harmful chemicals in to the air and  lead to deterioration of ozone layer around the earth which results in increase in cancer cases. Therefore, it is evident that plastic production as well as consumption are bad for the environment.

However, if timely actions are taken by the authorities concerned and civilians then it can turn the tide and restore the damage done to the mother nature.First and foremost, the govermnents can impose hefty fines on people using products made of plastic.Due to this, people will stop using plastic or reduce use to some extent and it will lead to no or less damage. Besides this, people can also share the responsibility towards nature and start using paper based containers and packing material in place of  similar products made of plastic. Therefore, the use of plastics will decline gradually and result in less harm to the nature.

To conclude, continuous use of plastic related stuff has done considerable damage to the ecology such as harmful emissions in to the air and depletion of ozone layer. However, if steps comprising of replacement of plastic with other degradable materials and imposition of huge penalties on the consumers are taken then it can not only significantly decrease the harm being done to the nature but also help in reversing the damage already done.
